In an incredible setting overlooking the Port de Beaulieu-sur-Mer, just a few metres from the water’s edge, is L’Appartement du Coin. On the first floor of a landmark traditional building dating from 1908, the apartment has been recently completely renovated to the highest standard in a modern Mediterranean style. It comprises two bedrooms (both with sea and mountain views) with European queen size (160cm) beds, two stylish and well-appointed bathrooms (one with bath and separate shower, one with shower), a large living room with balcony overlooking the water and comfortable dining area as well as a separate fully-equipped modern kitchen. The apartment is air-conditioned and has all modern conveniences, including superfast wifi (fibre) throughout and a large smart TV with a range of French TV channels as well as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ apps so you can watch content via your own accounts. However, the main feature is always going to be the spectacular view from the full-length windows, opening on to a small balcony where you can enjoy an aperitif while watching the comings and goings of the busy port, used by both a small fishing fleet and as a landing stage for the tenders that run back and forth to the superyachts moored out in the bay. A second balcony with marina and mountain view leads from the master bedroom.

We are a Polish-Scottish couple, living on the Cote d'Azur for over a decade. Beaulieu-sur-Mer is the perfect destination for immersing yourself in the lifestyle, culture and cuisine of the French Riviera. Ideally located on the coast between Nice and Monaco and once the favoured destination of many European heads of state and aristocrats, Beaulieu-sur-Mer retains much of its Belle Époque charm. Spectacular villas dot the hillside above the town, but the finest examples of this period of architecture sit a few hundred metres from L’Appartement du Coin, including the Gustave Eiffel-designed waterfront casino and La Rotonde, which sits like an oversized wedding cake decoration in front of the Plage des Fourmis, one of two large beaches which dominate the coastline of the town. Also overlooking this bay is the Villa Kérylos, a spectacular replica of an ancient Greek villa. The other beach, to the front of the apartment, is the Plage Petite Afrique, so-called because of its micro-climate which results in temperatures several degrees higher than the surrounding coastline. Lining the port frontage is a row of recently renovated restaurants, including The African Queen, a legendary haunt of celebrities, artists and politicians and just beyond that is the large public beach (2022 bathing water quality: excellent) with several beach restaurants. There is a wide range of other restaurants around the town, from the ever popular cafés which line the main square, Place du Général du Gaulle (which also hosts the fruit and vegetable market Monday to Friday mornings, weekly Provençal market on Saturday mornings and a monthly Italian market on the first Sunday of each month) to the Michelin-starred Le Restaurant des Rois, housed inside La Réserve de Beaulieu – one of the finest hotels on the Riviera, less than 200 metres from L’Appartement du Coin. Alternatively, you can buy fresh fish most mornings from the fishermen who set up their stand a few metres from the front door of the apartment and cook it in the well-equipped kitchen.
