St Maixent l’Ecole 10 kilometers & a 15 minute drive away has a train station, the French fast speed train calls in, Paris is only around 2 hours away via Poitiers. The town has several boulangeries, cafes & restaurants, a local market each Saturday morning & a large Leclerc hypermarket with excellent fresh fish, meat, cheese, vegetables & fruit & a great selection of wine. The town & surroundings has frequently been a stage on the Tour de France. The local St Maixent rugby club is twinned with Horsham RFC in Sussex, UK. Verruyes, 7 kilometres away has a beautiful lake with a sandy beach, tennis courts, a large children's play area & a cafe/bar. Saint Georges de Noisne is 3 kilometres away with a Proxi convenience store for all essentials including bread & croissants. Mazieres en Gatine is 10 kilometres away with a very good boulangerie & supermarket including fresh meat & vegetables. There is a large Total garage for petrol/diesel & the town boasts an excellent very picturesque 18 hole Golf Course, Le Petit Chene with a driving range & additional pitch & putt 6 hole course. Niort is the largest nearest departmental town 30 minutes drive away with a large commercial centre on the outskirts at Chauray. Melle, a nearby town with a sliver mine, & Celles-sur-Belle, with a beautiful cathedral, are both worth visiting within a 30 minute drive.
