Briançon has a remarkable collection of military structures, built between the 18th and 20th centuries to improve the town's defense system. The tour includes the upper town, or Vauban citadel, the very heart of Briançon, dominated by the Château Fort, and the surrounding fortifications of Fort des Salettes, Fort des Trois Têtes, and Fort du Randouillet. In winter, Briançon becomes a popular destination for ski enthusiasts, as its ski area is part of the famous Serre Chevalier resort.
