We're told that the house was built fairly early in the history of Sainte-Foy-La-Gande (founded in 1255). We understand that it was probably originally a merchant's warehouse, which makes sense given that we're adjacent to the quais, and have river-access. The Ground Floor at Les Terraces is open plan, and has been completely renovated since we bought the property. With exposed stone walls and timbers, the apartment is a cozy and welcoming space. The thickness of the walls make for warmth in winter, and a deliciously cool space in summer. A large private terrace gives stunning views over the Dordogne and offers a perfect place to chill out and relax. Many of our guests are so content to sit on the terrace with a book and a glass of something chilled that they shelve their plans for sightseeing!

After a lifetime of living and working in the Caribbean, we decided that it was time for a change of everything, and felt that France offered us the quality of life that we sought. We bought Les Terraces in 2009, and moved permanently to France in 2014. We have been very happy with our move. The people here are warm and friendly and the gentle pace of life in semi-rural France suits us to a T.

Sainte-Foy-La-Grande sits alongside the Dordogne river on the border between the departments of the Gironde and Dordogne .... the line runs down the middle of the river! We're right in the middle of wine country..... Monbazillac, Bergerac and Pecharment are to our east, the Pays de Duras to the south, while St. Emilion and Bordeaux are to our west. SW France is a region of great history, and much of it is on our doorstep. Whether your interests lie in the relatively modern stories of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Richard the Lionheart, or pre-historic settlements you can research them to your hearts content. If art and culture are more your style, then there are plenty of artists and artisans working in the region. If sporting activities are more your thing, then we've golf, canoeing, cycling, walking and fishing within no more than 15 minutes of Les Terraces.
