## The neighborhood La Préfecture, the heart of the neighborhood A distinctive landmark of the city of Lyon, the Prefecture building forms the heart of the neighborhood, contributing to its solemnity and distinction. Designed by architect Antonin Louvier, it was inaugurated on August 18, 1890. Part of the building (facades, roofs, grand double-spiral staircase, general council chamber) has been listed as a historical monument since October 15, 1981. Features like the "antique" column, Mansard roof, murals, sculptures, ceremonial staircase, grand salons, and luxurious silk decorations by Tassinari & Chatel highlight the grandeur of the building.
