This traditional stone farmhouse, set amidst walnut orchards on the very border of the Lot and Correze is jewel of contemporary living in a traditional setting. the designer interior has varied space, from a very traditional music room, comfortably furnished with piano, guitar and a wood burning stove to the main living and dining area which has a traditional open fireplace and plenty of space to enjoy dining, cooking, socialising or binge watching. The outdoor terrace makes a perfect party zone for barbecue as does the pool. Both seat a dozen for dining with room to spare. The large, heated saltwater pool has shaded dining space as well as table tennis, solar shower and loungers for all. Beyond the pool there is the garden itself to wander into, find shade and peace or release the youngsters to enjoy the space and dedicated play area. Plenty of secure off road parking, free high speed wifi and the peace of the rural setting in the cleanest air in France combined with the advantage of nearby services and shopping. Our real pleasure is to know that visitors enjoy their time at La Chauvarie. We have worked hard to create a holiday space from a traditional working farm. We know and love the area, so if you want advice on anything at all, restaurants, sites to visit, local markets, wine and produce, canoeing, cycling or horse riding opportunities...we are the people to ask. Judith is an artist specialising in watercolours, now happily retired after a lifetime working with young children. Kevin has always been happiest with a good book in hand. Since arrival in France in 2007, both have become builders, decorators, plumbers and roofing experts. There are few jobs on a property that we have not had close experience of. Life here is energising and we love to see the region work that special magic upon our visitors. Many guests arrive with their bicycles to take advantage of the remarkable opportunities on the doorstep. If you like steep climbs, speedy descents, empty roads, clean air, and spectacular panoramas this house is for you. Cycling to the boulangerie for the morning croissants and bread is a great way to start the day and there are 4 VTT bikes here free for visitors use.

The history of this region is rich and varied. From mediaeval times when we were at the heart of the hundred years war through to the open bravery shown by the locality during the years of Nazi oppression, this area is bursting with very local history, an interest Kevin is happy to share. The house is full of books, many related to the history of the region. La Chauvarie is a small hamlet , part of a commune of 200 persons set in the Dordogne valley. The river is 2km away, the views are on the doorstep. In the summer, the region bursts into commercial life with cafes, bars, restaurants and markets all alive with visitors, yet peace is only a few steps away. The local cuisine features duck, walnuts, rocamadour, cheese, foie gras, truffles, fish from the river and fresh produce of every kind. The local asparagus is particularly good. Our local wine, Coteaux de Glanes is an exceptionally good provincial wine produced on a local cooperative basis but the Vin Paille is the true local gourmand special. There are so many places to visit, a brief visit should include: Rocamadour, Padirac, Turenne, Curemont, Collonges la Rouge, Beaulieu sur dordogne, Autoire, Martel steam train.
