Hi there, my name is Steve and I am one of the owners of the Dragon Barn, and I also renovated the property with help from my friends. The name of the property came from the roof, because the old rounded slate tiles resemble dragon scales. So we made a dragons head out of zinc and placed it overlooking the mountains. The building work and renovation has been done respecting traditional building techniques and materials. We have used natural lime render extensively and also the walls are inserted with hemp making the building more breathable. Our hot water comes from solar heated pipes on the roof, and the central heating comes from a wood fired boiler, that uses wood from our own trees. We have purposefully tried to build a different gîte compared to most in the area, with artisans working on various pieces around the property, and of course a lot of love has gone into the build. I live in Ascou village with my partner Abby and our two children. As we have been here for over fifteen years we have a good knowledge of the area and are happy to give advice to people wanting to explore this amazing area.

Ascou is a quiet, mountain village at 1000metres altitude and the views are incredible. Opposite the village you can see the slopes of Ax 3 Doamines, one of the Pyrenees premier ski resorts. The Dragon Barn is situated on one the GR route, so there are beautiful walks in every direction.
