Property information

5 Belmont Terrace offers a lovely period terraced cottage within the beautiful village of Beer, just a short, flat walk from the shops to the seafront following the Beer Brook, which run through the high street to sea. Whilst the cottage has been refurbished by the owners it maintains much of its historic charm, a feature being the wooden window seats still situated within many of the rooms. Sleeping up to 6 within 4 bedrooms, the cottage is spacious and offers the flexibility of 2 lounge rooms and front and rear patio areas. With the addition of secured off road parking for 2 cars, 5 Belmont Terrace really is a ideal cottage to enjoy all this beautiful village and local area has to offer.

Neighbourhood information

This charming fishing village in south-east Devon grew up around a smugglers' cove and its fascinating history makes it popular with visitors - particularly exciting is the story of smuggler Jack Rattenbury, nicknamed "Rob Roy of the West". Visit the famous Beer Quarry Caves, where 19th century smugglers like Jack would store contraband, and which are the main source in England for Beer stone, used in the construction of many cathedrals and churches and even in Buckingham Palace. A large part of Beer's history revolved around the making of lace, and former customers have included Queen Victoria (the flounce for her wedding dress was made here) and the Prince and Princess of Wales. Today one of the main features of Beer life is fishing, and since there is no harbour it is a daily occurrence to see boats winched up the beach using steel cables. Be sure to sample some of their haul in one of the delightful restaurants that dot the area, or hire a motor-boat and try some mackerel-fishing. Popular for families is Pecorama, with award-winning gardens, stunning sea views, home-made food and a selection of refreshments and most famously Britain’s finest 7.25 inch railway, where a fleet of steam locomotives pull passenger-carrying trains on a mile long route through the grounds, over bridges, through steep-sided cuttings and a long, dark tunnel! There are also large outside play areas, and a lovely wildway walk. A feature of Beer is the brook which runs through the town and down to the sea. The saying goes that you are not a true Beer local until you have fallen into the brook, perhaps more likely after a spot of ale at one of the local pubs along the way.
