The Waterside Holiday Park is relatively small & ideally situated on the coastal path between Goodrington Sands and Broadsands beaches. The coastal footpath, that runs alongside the holiday park, stretches between both beaches & a 20-30 minute walk takes you to a beach in either direction. The view from nearby headland is stunning. My photos include the two coves that are only a few minutes from the holiday home & where I swim regularly. For those who prefer to drive (& avoid the steps) both beaches are only 5 minutes away. I wanted to offer a home from home for families, couples and friends to enjoy each others company. With a Moroccan flavour my holiday home is warm & welcoming all year round. You can relax on the deck & enjoy the occasional steam train & the sea view. With a restaurant on site & many takeaways (& some supermarkets) in the area who deliver you could be forgiven for choosing to stay put. For the more adventurous paddle boarding or canoe hire is available at both beaches & most adrenaline junkies would enjoy the 'death slide' (which is what we lifeguards used to call it at Goodringtons Water park 'Splashdown'). It now offers more pools & a dedicated area for younger children. Nearby are bumper boats & giant swan pedalos as well as an arcade. Opening times are seasonal. 'Cantina is a favourite of mine...good food plus live music Thursday & Sundays. Broadsands also has a 9 hole golf course on the grass above the beach. My holiday van is ideal for a quiet relaxing break or a more active visit as there also are many tourist attractions nearby. Leaflets in a folder. Having lived in the area for 25 years I have a store of local knowledge for those looking for days out with a difference. I'm always on the lookout for deals to pass on to my guests and enjoy passing on recommendations. I visited The Chart Room in Brixham recently & enjoyed a very tasty Devonshire Cream Tea surrounded by memorabilia from cruise liners. Adults only & tucked away slightly.
I love spending time out and about in South Devon as it offers a wonderful variety of scenic locations. I live nearby in Totnes which is full of vibrant cafes and restaurants along with independent shops. A lovely little cinema also offers coffee & cake in the day and jazz on Sundays. The weekend market (on Fridays & Saturdays) is great for browsing & Totnes Museum is a little gem. There's a cafe at The Rare Breeds Farm & watching the steam trains come & go is still a favourite past time when it's running. The riverboat to Dartmouth has a very entertaining commentary with less said on the way back. Tickets can be bought independently or as part of the Round Robin Day out which involves a steam train ride between Kingswear & Paignton; the ferry between Kingswear & Dartmouth (great spot below the castle for swimming); Open Top Bus (if weather permits) between Paignton & Totnes and the River Cruise. I've done it in individual stages over the years but never all on the same day. The Totnes to Buckfastleigh Steam Train now has a dining car which was on the Orient Express. Dartmoor is another 40 minute drive & with pubs, full of good food and open fires, going for a 'blow' on the moors always makes for a great day out. Go in the winter and you can see why Sherlock Holmes 'The Hounds of the Baskervilles' was set there. Dartmoor ponies & sheep roam all year round. While growing up in New Zealand I was a big fan of The Famous Five books and this area is ideal for picnics with 'lashings of ginger beer'. Whether it be on the beach, on the Tors of Dartmoor or sitting on the river bank in Totnes or Stoke Gabriel there is plenty of local produce to be enjoyed. Stoke has the added attraction of crabbing during the warmer months. Crabs are caught humanely & returned after spending a little time in a bucket. My sons grew up having regular crabbing competitions & we still do as one of our annual traditions. Parking is half price up in the village & cafe by The Mill Pond is lovely.
Paignton has plenty of activities on offer...adventure golf with a pirate theme; pier with arcade and outdoor fun & a large play park on the seafront. The circus comes to town every summer as does various funfairs. There are restaurants near the seafront along with kiosks selling burgers and ice creams. The Shoreline Restaurant behind the cinema, has fantastic views of the sea and serves delicious food. It doesn't look much from the outside so people are often suprised at how attractive the interior is. Next to the cinema is Costero Lounge. I regularly enjoy their 'Miami Brunch' there or at their Bruto Lounge in Totnes. There's a Wetherspoons across the road & plenty of Fish and Chips to be found. 'The Spinning Wheel' on the seafront has regular live music. The battered chips at Scoffs are perfect to take down to the seafront to share. As a single mum on a tight budget they were a cheap treat for my sons. There's a cafe on the pier & if old enough you can send the kids off with a few pounds to have a go at winning tickets for prizes in the large arcade there while you have a quiet cuppa. Torquay has a very picturesque harbour surrounded by restaurants. There is also a small beach there with great cafes with outdoor seating opposite. The Riviera Centre nearby has a large pool with a wave machine. Escape Rooms can be found in Paignton, Torquay and Newton Abbot which we still enjoy. The Pirate Festival in nearby Brixham is very popular and a regular ferry to Torquay and Paignton can be caught there. The 12 bus stop is on the road outside the holiday park and the bus offers great views from the top deck. Cockington is a pretty thatched village with a whole estate behind to explore. The Drum Inn is a lovely pub & one of many in Torbay that offers tasty food with plenty to drink. Nearby Babbacombe has its own charm with the Model Village & Bygones to explore. With so much to see and do the question is not 'what is there to do' but 'how much can I squeeze in'.
