Neighbourhood information
Jevington is a pretty village in Sussex, within the South Downs National Park and dating back to Viking times. The Jevington parish church is situated at the end of the lane and is dedicated to St Andrew where it offers fabulous views over the South Downs National Park. It contains Saxon elements (including a tower) as well as many other medieval architectural features, including a 14th-century font. A rare elm cultivar 'Serpentina' also grows in the grounds. Jevington can still boast of having a thriving village pub, "The Eight Bells", where an extensive menu is available offering everything from light snacks to delicious dinners, including daily specials. They even host jazz and quiz evenings, so why not take yourself along and join in the fun while indulging in the delights of home cooked food and a warm welcome? Wilmington is only a short distance to Jevington and while you may not be familiar with the village, it has thousands of visitors every year to gaze on its famous icon, The Long Man, carved into the hill holding a stave in each hand and is over 235 feet tall. Thought to date back to the Iron Age, this is certainly worth a visit! Nearby Lewes is well-known for its independent shops, and across the bridge you can find a selection of affordable and fascinating antique shops. Eastbourne with its charming seafront, beautiful bandstand and pier is a short drive away with some great restaurants and shopping experiences, or may head to historic Hastings which is home to the Jerwood Gallery and also has a vibrant music scene. An excellent location whatever you choose to do.
