My house is an old weavers cottage, a 4 story terraced property with bags of quirky charm, overlooking woodland, a converted Mill and with the lovely sound of the river in the background. . The house is all low ceilings and beams, mullioned windows and arched cellars. The guest room is light and spacious, with a private bathroom, and has its own staircase, so there is a real sense of privacy for you. The garden is very pretty and in the warmer months you can enjoy sitting in the sunshine, There is also a lovely shady area when it gets very hot. This is a quiet residential area, and the woodland very close by means an abundance of birdsong. It is only 5 minutes walk down the hill to the centre of Holmfirth. N.B. Access to the property is down 2 flights of stone steps, and once inside the house there is a flight of stairs to the guest room: please be aware of this when making your reservation.

I love hosting, I really enjoy sharing my lovely old house with guests, and I really enjoy meeting so many new people. I am recently retired from my lifelong job as an acupuncturist, and I am enjoying the gentler pace of life as a Homestay host. I have stayed in many Homestay properties myself, I much prefer that to a hotel, as I find you get a real sense of how folk live. I myself have stayed in houses offering homestays in Barcelona, Istanbul, Dehli and Jaipur, and on Vancouver Island too.

Holmfirth is a pretty little town in the Pennines, very close to the Peak District. A perfect base for walkers and cyclists, and Holmfirth town is a lovely place for a night out. There are lots of great bars and restaurants and at the centre of it all the Picturedrome venue, hosting live bands several nights a week. There is plenty to go and visit in the surrounding area for art lovers, such as Yorkshire Sculpture park, which is 20 minutes away by car, and the Hepworth gallery in Wakefield, which is about a 40 minute drive. Holmirth is of course famous for "Last of the Summer Wine", a long running gentle comedy series on TV. It was filmed on location here and in the neighbouring villages for many years, and there are many visitors coming to explore the area and find the famous location sites. Many cyclists also pour into this area wanting to tackle the steep steep climbs around and about, epecially since Le Grand Depart a few years ago which was the first leg of the Tour de France. I have to mention the charity shops, we have 4 or 5 at the moment, I do very well out of them myself! Another favourite shop for visitors is the Fairtrader, packed with lovely gifts and foods.
