Neighbourhood information

Broomy Barn sits about a mile from the rural village of Brompton Regis, a peaceful spot on the eastern side of Exmoor National Park. Once a thriving market town divided into Highertown and Lowertown, the parish stretches from the Haddeo Valley up to the Brendon Hills and includes Wimbleball Lake. The lake, which holds over 21,000 megalitres of water, offers scenic walks and a range of water-based activities. The wider parish also includes the hamlets of Withiel Florey, Bury, Gupworthy and Hartford. A community-run village shop in the village hall provides everyday essentials. Around five miles away, Dulverton is known as the southern gateway to Exmoor. This attractive small town offers a butcher, Post Office, fish and chip shop, greengrocer, supermarket, art gallery, hairdressers and specialist shops including fishing tackle. Visitors will also find quality boutiques, gift shops, restaurants, tearooms and welcoming pubs. Wheddon Cross, approximately six miles from Brompton Regis, has a mini-supermarket with long opening hours, a petrol station and a village pub. A short drive beyond lies Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor at 1,704 feet. From the summit, panoramic views stretch across wild moorland, the Bristol Channel, Wales, the Brendon Hills and the Quarme Valley. Wheddon Cross is also well known for Snowdrop Valley, where thousands of snowdrops bloom each February. A park-and-ride system helps visitors access this remarkable natural display. This part of Exmoor combines history, scenic landscapes and friendly local communities, making it an excellent base for exploring the national park and its surrounding villages.
