Neighbourhood information

Culford Heath is a hamlet sitting within the little known Breckland area, made up of huge forests and heaths with great historic and wildlife interest. Bumblebee Cottage is right on the edge of The Kings Forest, offering endless wildlife watching, walks and off-road biking opportunities. Just a short drive away is Euston Hall and Elvedon Courtyard which hosts a fine farm shop and restaurant, plus West Stow, an award winning Anglo Saxon village. Nearby in Bury St Edmunds you can stroll through history with mediaeval architecture, beautiful Georgian squares, stunning St Edmundsbury Cathedral (the only cathedral in Suffolk), and the ruins of an 11th century monastery which was once a place of pilgrimage and one of the most important in mediaeval Europe. The award winning Abbey Gardens created in 1831in the same style as the Royal Botanical Gardens in Brussels, and St Mary’s Church, which is the resting place of Mary Tudor are also worth a visit. Indulge yourself in fine dining and contemporary cuisine or simply enjoy a pint at Britain's smallest pub, The Nutshell, The Green King Brewery, brewing since 1799, offers friendly guides and the opportunity to view Bury St Edmunds from the roof. Catch a show, concert or recital at the beautifully restored Regency Theatre Royal - one of only eight Grade I listed theatres within the UK- or The Apex Arts centre. A short 10 minute drive from the town is the beautiful National Trust owned Ickworth House & Park; home to the Hervey Family. This magnificent Italianate Palace with classical rotunda is set amongst 1800 acre parkland. Also close by is the historic market town of Thetford, home to Dad’s Army, a castle, priory and endless forestry activities at nearby High Lodge. Within 30 mins drive are the charming wool towns of Lavenham and Long Melford, or take a trip to Newmarket, where the racecourse is considered to be the birthplace and global centre of thoroughbred horse racing.
