Property information

Davey’s Barn sleeps two guests in studio-style accommodation with a king-size bed, a modern shower room, and a private outdoor space with a stream (supervision required for pets). Warm, characterful and perfectly placed for a rural escape, it’s an inviting retreat for anyone seeking peace, countryside views and authentic Exmoor charm. Davey’s Barn sits on a working hill farm on Brendon Hill, surrounded by sweeping Exmoor countryside. This charming peaceful hideaway for two offers a cosy interior, lovely views, and walks from the doorstep. The open-plan living space brings together a sofa and wood-burner, a dining area, a compact kitchen and a king-size sleigh bed, with a modern shower room set just off the main room. Outside, the private terrace and enclosed courtyard provide a quiet place to sit beside the stream and enjoy the tranquillity of the hamlet. Guests will find logs provided for the wood-burner, a charcoal barbecue for summer evenings, and all essentials included, such as bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi, heating and electricity. Dogs are welcome for a supplement of GBP 15 per dog. As the barn is located on a working beef and sheep farm, visitors are welcome to request a tour, learn about the farming practices, or meet the pedigree sheep shown at local and national competitions.

Neighbourhood information

The Brendon Hills offer a peaceful corner of West Somerset, blending gently into the eastern side of Exmoor and placing guests close to some of the region’s finest scenery. With Exmoor National Park on the doorstep and the Quantock Hills (AONB) a short drive away, it’s a wonderful base for walking, wildlife spotting and exploring quiet rural landscapes. Wimbleball Lake Activity Centre is about ten minutes away, with lakeside walking and cycling trails plus watersports including paddleboarding, canoeing, sailing and windsurfing. Clatworthy Reservoir is also nearby, offering scenic routes and well-regarded fishing. The long-distance Coleridge Way passes through the area too, providing 50 miles of varied walking and riding routes. The ancient harbour town of Watchet, roughly eight miles away, has a marina, steam railway station, museums, shops, pubs and places to eat. From Easter there is a weekly Wednesday market, along with a craft and food market on the first Sunday of each month. Wheddon Cross, about seven miles away, sits high on Exmoor and gives easy access to Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on the moor. The views stretch across wild moorland, the Bristol Channel and even to Wales on a clear day. Each February the nearby Snowdrop Valley draws visitors to its famous displays. The village also has a mini-supermarket, petrol station and a welcoming pub. To the east, Wiveliscombe is about nine miles away, with Taunton around eighteen miles for larger shops and amenities. Popular Exmoor attractions such as Minehead, Porlock Weir, Lynton and Lynmouth, Tarr Steps and many scenic trails are all within comfortable reach, making the area ideal for guests who want a blend of tranquillity, nature and easy day trips.
