The original farmhouse building dates back to the 1600s. Launceston Farm has been in my family since 1915. My father, Jim, the youngest of nine siblings, came here to farm when he was 16. During the First World War, the men who worked the farmland - there were 40 back then - were sent to war and the Land Girls took over. Jim married one of these unsuspecting ladies, Judy, and had two daughters, my sister and I, both born in the farmhouse. I have spent my life here, farming and raising my own family who have now taken on the running of the farm. In 2008, following a gruelling year long renovation, we opened Launceston Farm B&B and then the two self catering cottages, both renovated farm buildings, in 2008 and 2012 respectively. Being an organic farm means that environmental sustainability is at the forefront of everything we do. The farmhouse and cottages are heated with a biomass woodchip system and solar PV panels generate renewable electricity. We are always mindful of the reasons why people come here; for the beauty, the peace, the natural surroundings so any future enterprise will be will be working in harmony with what we are already lucky enough to have achieved.

The walking around Launceston Farm and the surrounding area of the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is unrivalled. I provide walking routes and even lead private tours for Launceston Farm guests. The thing that makes it unique aside from the breath taking scenery is the unlikelihood that you will bump into anyone else. Sometimes, its magical to feel alone in the world.

Tarrant Launceston where Launceston Farm is situated, is one of nine tiny hamlets sitting astride the River Tarrant. This idyllic rural valley is home to a thriving agricultural economy and is a special conservation area. AS well as being popular with walkers and cyclists, it is paradise for those interested in wildlife with every change of season offering a new wonder. The villages themselves are mostly comprised of impossibly well preserved medieval thatch cottages. The village pub in Tarrant Monkton, just a five minute walk down the road and over the ford, is one of these traditional thatch buildings. Despite suffering near devastation in a fire ten years ago, the owners, who are also local farmers, prioritise traditional food and local sourcing and is always a popular option with our guests.
