Mattishall is a large village in the heart of rural Norfolk. The discovery site of an archaeological hoard of silver coins hint to the village's historic agricultural roots. Today the village has a lively community with a sports and social club, school, surgery, local shops, and a fish 'n' chip shop. Mattishall Golf Club offers a great course for new and experienced golfers, while nearby Bawburgh Golf Club offers an 18 hole championship golf course with valley views. Local produce can be purchased at Acorn Hut Farm Shop and The Goat Shed, with delightful cafes found at both. Ten-minutes away, Barnham Broom hosts an excellent Brasserie restaurant, spa, and golf course. Within an hour's walk of Heath Cottage are the Victoria Inn in Hockering; The Honingham Buck, Honingham. In the other direction is The Lodge Griddle & Grill, North Tuddenham. All between approximately 2 and 3 miles away. The nearby market town of Dereham, is stone’s throw off the A47 trunk road which is a gateway to all Norfolk has to offer; beautiful countryside, wonderful beaches, the Broads, and beckoning pubs. An excellent shopping hub, Dereham is also home to Bishop Bonner’s Cottage Museum, a trove of local history and the story of St Withburga will appeal to all with a visit to Withburga’s Well. Rail and steam enthusiasts can admire and ride on vintage trains at the Dereham Station, operated by the Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust. And just a short walk away, Dereham Windmill features a holographic miller and cosy tea rooms. Other local market towns include smaller historic market towns such as Hingham, Attleborough and Wymondham are within easy reach. Mattishall's excellent central location allows easy access to Norwich within half an hour. Norwich is a wonderful fusion of the modern and historic.
