Comfortable double ensuite rooms in a very big house - self catering (shared large kitchens and sitting room) a short stroll from Dumfries town centre & on same side of town as the Infirmary. Large private car park. Bus stop on doorstep. Free wifi. The bedrooms are as in the photos & have a desk & chair, some have armchair /sofa. The ensuite wet-rooms are basic, with shower, toilet & basin. Long term stays welcome for reduced rates. The kitchens are shared with considerate & peaceful, mostly long-term, professional housemates & other guests - uncrowded as many eat at work. Each room has its own food cupboard & a shelf in the freezer & fridge. There are pans, cutlery, crockery etc Please note that the kitchens are quite basic &, due to the nature of the house (shared with long-term tenants) it can't be as clean as a self-catering property which is empty & deep-cleaned between guests (this is reflected in our price - please don't book if you want it to be immaculate). Tenants clean up after themselves & there is a weekly cleaner. The bedrooms & ensuites are clean. The kitchen, sitting room and ground floor bedrooms & ensuite wetrooms are wheelchair accessible. Please contact us before booking to check availability. We respectfully request that all guests clean up after themselves in the shared rooms. We also ask them to be reasonably quiet, especially at night time. There's an iron & board in the utility room, with washing machines & dryers which are coin-operated at 3 pounds to wash & 1 pound to dry (commercial machines - take large loads - bring your own soap powder). For anyone hoping to stay in Dumfries long-term, this is a good way to find out that you like the house & housemates first, without any long term commitment. Sorry, no bookings from anyone under 20 yo, or with pets, without contacting the host first. Dogs will be allowed at the host's discretion by prior arrangement & are to be kept in bedroom, not in kitchen or sitting room.
We don't live in the property but we are available on the phone 24 hours to answer any queries and deal with requests. For arrivals within working hours, one of us can generally meet you. When we can't meet you, we can give the code for the main door and directions to the room and kitchen etc over the phone on arrival, and the bedroom door will be unlocked with the key on the desk. For any emergencies we can call a long-term tenant who will help but we don't give out his number as he needs peace in his home. The long-term tenants are peaceful, friendly and helpful.
There's a good choice of restaurants/cafes/bars within easy walking distance. Dumfries & Galloway, often called 'the Highlands in miniature' has hills, lochs, woodland, rivers, miles of stunning coastline & a great variety of wildlife, including red squirrels, otters, roe deer, hedgehogs, red kites and other birds of prey. It's still undiscovered by mass tourism but has been offered National Park status so should be visited soon, before the hordes arrive! There are countless outdoor activities. The 7-stanes mountain bike trails are here, there are many golf courses, Galloway Activity centre on Loch Ken has hilarious games/sports or else you can have a quiet canoe or paddleboard, probably with a whole beach to yourself, or a peaceful day fishing or hiking. There are nature reserves and many castles to visit (Drumlanrig, Caerlaverock, Threave to mention a few) as well as distilleries and breweries and the Devils' Porridge Bowl at Annan where shells were made by brave people in the 1st World War. In Dumfries itself, there is the Rabbie Burns Museum, the Burns Film Centre, the Camera Obscura and the Theatre Royal, the oldest working theatre in Scotland, and more. There's a pleasant walk along the River Nith just a short distance from the door.
