This 400 year old terraced cottage is a stone construction, just a short walk from the centre of Alston - the highest market town in England and the centre of five historic Pennine routes. The cottage itself is traditional and welcoming, boasting exposed beams, an inglenook fireplace and a wood-burning effect gas stove - ideal for a cosy, romantic break. In addition to the double bedroom, the cottage offers a fitted kitchen and sitting room. Please note that the Gas fire is not in use for bookings during June, July and August. Surrounded by a unique landscape of moorland, hills, rivers and waterfalls, Alston is set in the North Pennines and is England's highest market town. This intriguing settlement boasts charming cobbled streets and was the filming location for ITV's productions of Jane Eyre and Oliver Twist. Long associated with poets, writers and artists, the wonderful location of Alston still serves as an inspiration to the craftspeople that live and work there. There is a wide range of unusual, independent shops in the town, including quality crafts and galleries. Visitors can also take a ride on one of the lovingly restored steam and diesel engines that run through the beautiful scenery of the South Tyne valley, whilst Nenthead Mines Heritage Centre makes a great family day out with its interactive exhibitions.
