Neighbourhood information
Farnham has a rich history dating back to Stone Age times. Through the ages there have been strong architectural influences from Roman, Saxon, Tudor and Georgian times. The town centre still boasts both Tudor and Georgian buildings. As with all suburban town centres, the sprawl of chains will eventually come but you can still find plenty of independent retailers including a butchers.
England’s first Cistercian Abby, known as Waverley Abby is approximately 2 miles from the town centre.
A 12th Century castle built by William the Conqueror’s grandson, Henry de Blois overlooks Farnham Town Centre with Monarchs from King John to Queen Victoria all having visited.
Pottery, crafts, weaving, and farming have all played their role in the development of Farnham as a market town, and the monthly farmers' market and seasonal festivals are still hosted in the town centre.
