We live right in the heart of town, round the corner from the apartment so are on hand for any advice if required. Justin is Whitby born and bred and Hayley is from Filey, just down the coast. We both love the outdoors and in particular, we love running and exploring what the magnificent local area has to offer.

One Over Eight sits in the very centre of Whitby, on the cobbled stretch of Church Street — one of the town’s oldest areas, dating back to the 1300s. This Grade II listed home is tucked away in a charming little courtyard and has been beautifully restored. Step outside and you’re immediately in the middle of this seaside town, surrounded by winding cobbled streets, plenty of places to eat, and the characterful harbour. You really couldn’t be any closer to everything Whitby has to offer!

Step out the front door and you’re immediately immersed in the charm of this seaside town, with its cobbled lanes, countless places to eat, and lively harbour. Treat yourself to classic fish and chips, then walk them off with a refreshing clifftop stroll or simply unwind on the expansive sandy beach. Hop on an open-top tour bus to take in all of Whitby’s highlights, or join one of the pleasure boats for a trip around the harbour and out onto the open water. Whitby always has something going on, from its twice-yearly Goth Festival and the famous Whitby Regatta to various music events. With three miles of pristine beach and a prime location on the edge of both the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Heritage Coast, it’s the perfect base for exploring the area’s natural beauty. The picturesque fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay, tucked into the coastal cliffs, lies just 5½ miles away. Walkers and cyclists are spoilt for choice with routes such as the Cleveland Way and the Esk Valley Trail, whose breathtaking scenery can also be admired from the steam train that runs from Whitby to Goathland through the heart of the Yorkshire Moors National Park.
