Dog-friendly Victorian stone cottage on Portland with cosy interiors, an enclosed garden, and panoramic sea views from the loft bedroom. Just a short walk to Chesil Beach and the South West Coast Path, with Weymouth only a quick drive or bus ride away. Experience our award-winning Victorian stone cottage in the heart of Fortuneswell, Portland, a cosy, dog-friendly retreat with sea views over Lyme Bay and the Jurassic Coast. Spanning three floors, the cottage sleeps up to six guests across three bedrooms, including a loft double with panoramic sea views. Inside, you’ll find a welcoming sitting room with an Amazon TV and board games, a dining room that seats six, and a fully equipped kitchen. From the dining room, doors open to an enclosed Portland stone courtyard garden with outdoor seating. Perfectly located near Chesil Beach and the South West Coast Path, it’s ideal for walkers, sailors, climbers, and outdoor enthusiasts. Weymouth, with its award-winning sandy beach and train station, is just a short drive or bus ride away. We provide thoughtful extras, including Clipper teas, locally roasted coffee, and Dorset-made cookies on arrival. As a Litter Free Dorset Sustainable Business Award winner, we’re committed to eco-friendly stays — from recycling and refillable products to supporting local makers.
After nearly 20 years in the education sector, I swapped the classroom for the coastline and started a new adventure with my husband, Dan. We fell in love with Portland and its stunning Jurassic Coast, and when we found a Victorian stone cottage in need of care, we couldn’t resist bringing it back to life. We’ve restored it with a balance of original character and modern comfort, and now love sharing it with guests who want a cosy coastal escape. Having stayed in countless places ourselves, we know how much the little touches matter — from a well-stocked kitchen to local recommendations that make your stay memorable. If you have any questions before or during your stay, I’m just a message away and always happy to help.
Our cottage is tucked away in the heart of Fortuneswell, a traditional Portland village with everything you need right on the doorstep. Within a short stroll, you’ll find a Co-Op supermarket, award-winning fish and chips, independent cafés, and cosy pubs — including the much-loved Cove House Inn, famous for its sunsets over Chesil Beach. Chesil itself is less than 500 metres away, and the South West Coast Path runs right by, offering miles of spectacular walking. We’re also just a 5-minute drive (or 15-minute walk) from the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, home of the 2012 London Olympics and still a hub for watersports. Weymouth, with its award-winning sandy beach, bustling harbour, and train station, is only 5 miles away and easily reached by local bus or car. Just so you know, the roads in Fortuneswell are typically narrow. Free 72-hour car parks are within a few minutes’ walk (though they can get busy in peak times), and there’s also free street parking nearby.
