Riber Hall Manor dates from 1400's. Built by the Ribergh family and documented in the national archives (11/53/552) when in 1458 John Robotham married Mary Ribergh. They had a daughter, Margaret Robotham who married William Wolley. This beautiful restored Grade II* Elizabethan manor house was home to the Derbyshire Wolley family until 1668. During the Civil War, Riber Hall Manor was documented as a royalist property although recent research suggests otherwise! There is a secret tunnel between Riber Hall Manor and Dethick. Dethick Manor is where Anthony Babington was born. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall Manor and indeed one of our private bedrooms would suggest this. By 1724 the property was owned by the Chappel family and two sisters divided the hall and split it into two halves. Meanwhile this side was untouched and forgotten over the years until recently. This hidden, secret side of Riber Hall Manor has authentic and fascinating true English charm and now here is your opportunity to stay in this hidden, secret side of Riber Hall Manor. In 2004 it was bought by the Gent family as their family home. Today Riber Hall Manor is a family home which also offers two bnb rooms. Sadly we are unable to accept guests who cannot accommodate uneven and long staircases (The staircase is original and while beautiful it is uneven in places). Check is only from 4 pm- 7pm and check out by 10 am. We politely request that B&B guests staying for more than one night will be away from the house between 10 am and 4 pm. The continental breakfast is served in the oak panelled dining room. Free parking is in road (Which is a quiet country lane) either side of the property and is always available. Guests are most welcome to enjoy our secret walled garden... All guests are personally greeted and offered the opportunity to hear all about the history of this fascinating historic property!
Riber Hall Manor was bought and restored by the Gent family in 2004. The Gent family live on the premises and as such are able to offer a bespoke service to all guests. Riber Hall Manor has two guest rooms and all guests are personally greeted by the owner, Alison, or occasionally another family member. Alison loves welcoming guests and if you would like a short history of this historically important property please just ask on arrival!
Riber Hall Manor is close to both Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Cromford Mills. For those who love the outdoors we have The Heights of Abraham (cable cars) and walks from our doorstep. Nearby towns include Matlock, Ashbourne, Bakewell and Buxton.
