The original stone barn was built in 1805 and was derelict until the late 1980's when the then owners, renovated them to create the cottages we have today. We acquired them in 2016, then stripped out and updated the kitchens and bathrooms then launched them as recently as mid February 2016. They are located opposite our main house so we are available to guests to help resolve any issues or questions you may have.
My partner and I moved out from London after 15 years to start our next 'Life Phase' of setting our retirement up, some 15 years in advance. We bought the main house to which these three cottages belong, some 4 years ago, and having only recently acquiring the cottages as late as 2016. Originally, we are from Zimbabwe having moved over to the UK (London) in 1999.
Water Newton is a small riverside village with about 40 houses therein. We a predominantly a 'stone village' with an operating C11th church situated alongside The River Nene; one of only a handful of riverside churches in the UK. Water Newton is famous for the discovery of Roman treasure in one of the fields within the village (''The Water Newton Treasure'', now in The British Museum), where once there existed a large Roman settlement called ''Durobrivae''. The village is on the River Nene and as such there are many boats that pass through the village. Additionally, we have a lock near the cottages where people often picnic and watch the boats pass through. Water Newton is surrounded by farmland, wetlands (lots of bird watching including all the usual water fowl) and good public (Roman way) foot-paths for the kene walker. Nearby, within a 30 minute walk along the river, is The Nene Valley (steam) Railway for those steam enthusiasts; it operates throughout the year. As we are on the edge of The Fenns, you can experience big vistas, skies and sunsets.
