Shorthorn lies just off the A66 making it very accessible, though you wouldn’t tell once arrived with its views. A mile away is the pretty village of Ravensworth, known for Ravensworth Nurseries, the horticultural business, and the remains of the 14th century Grade I listed Ravensworth Castle near the village green. It also has a very good village pub, The Bay Horse. There are plenty of walks from Greenbank Barns and several good pubs with restaurants within a few miles. The local market towns are Richmond and Barnard Castle, with heritage sites to explore, weekly markets, and good cafes for a coffee after a spot of shopping. The Yorkshire Dales is just a short drive away; explore Malham Cove, Aysgarth Falls and pretty towns like Hawes and Middleham. The nearest ‘village shop’ is Mainsgill Farm Shop, about 1⁄2 mile away as the crow flies. It has a large food hall, with award-winning homemade produce, wines and general groceries, a restaurant and café. There are the local markets in nearby towns, and it's easy to arrange a home delivery at Greenbank Barns. When stocking up the drinks fridge, try Bon Coeur just down the road who can deliver and also offer fun wine tasting evenings. For those who enjoy being pampered, The Garage Spa is just a few miles west, with spa facilities and sauna, treatments and massages.
