The Coal Merchant’s House is a friendly, family run B&B for adults. An individually designed house built in 1925, it is positioned in a semi rural residential area one mile from Whitby, our fascinating town, famous for history and culture. The house has three rooms, all ensuite with flat screen TVs, well stocked hospitality trays and comfy beds with high quality bed linen to add a dash of luxury. Our amenities include off street parking, free wi-fi, hearty breakfast with vegetarian and vegan option, safe cycle storage, complimentary bottled water, hospitality trays with proper coffee, Botham’s biscuits and fresh milk, fairtrade toiletries and smart TVs with Netflix.

The house is half a mile from Ruswarp and the River Esk with recreational facilities including the Esk Valley footpath running alongside the river and harbour into town. In Ruswarp you will find a village pub serving bar meals, cafes and rowing boats for hire. You can also hop on the Esk Valley Railway which passes through the magnificent landscape and lovely villages in the North York Moors National Park.
