The New Inn 1730 is a proper old country pub with heart — full of character, warmth, and Cumbrian charm. Recently back under local ownership, we’ve given the place a good spruce-up while keeping its old soul intact. Guests can expect hearty home-cooked food, a friendly welcome, cosy rooms with little comforts, and a peaceful spot to unwind after a day exploring the fells.

I’m Peter, proud to be back running The New Inn 1730 — a place with real history and heart. I love meeting new faces, sharing good food, and keeping the old pub spirit alive with plenty of warmth and laughter. When I’m not cooking up a full English or chatting by the fire, you’ll find me walking the fells with our two pub dogs, Bonnie and Clyde. Everyone’s welcome here — come as you are and make yourself at home.

The New Inn 1730 sits in peaceful countryside just outside Appleby — a perfect base for walkers, cyclists, horse riders, artists, and anyone who loves a bit of quiet Cumbrian charm. Lake Ullswater is only 15 miles away for boating and breathtaking views, and the famous Settle to Carlisle train line runs nearby. The historic market town of Appleby is just 2 miles down the road, with boutique shops, traditional pubs, and Appleby Castle to explore. It’s a beautiful corner of Cumbria with plenty to see, do, and simply enjoy.
