You’ll find our team hard at work in a traditional, converted stone carriage building in sleepy Elterwater, at the gateway of the stunning Great Langdale Valley. From here, we help people find all sorts of charming local hideaways, from converted barns to rambling stone-built parsonages. So whatever sort of Lake District break you’re looking for, give us a shout and we’ll use our in-depth local expertise to find you a place you’ll love.
Phone us and you’ll be talking to Denise, Helen, Pip or Julie – all with years of knowledge about what makes our region great. Whether you’re looking for walks, cream teas, paddling, peddling or paragliding, they’ll point you in the right direction. And if you need anything sorting out during your stay, just give us a buzz and our team of locally based housekeepers, handymen and problem solvers will be on it in a flash.
Best wishes, and take care.
The team at Wheelwrights Cottages

Lingmoor Cottage (Number 2. Plumblands) is a charming property situated in Chapel Stile in the Langdale Valley, just recently renovated to a very high standard. Stunning views from the house with a seating area in the garden looking over Lingmoor – perfect for a refreshing drink on the terrace at the end of the day!
The cottage sleeps six and has a wonderful open plan living room with log burner, dining area and kitchen with oak fittings and flooring. A ground floor double room and shower room opposite make a great addition to making all facilities accessible on a ground floor level. A second double room and family bathroom with bath and separate shower on the first floor, leading to a twin room on the second floor. All the bedrooms face the back of the cottage away from the roadside, with beautiful views of the valley in every season, Lingmoor and surrounding fells. Underfloor heating from a ground source heat pump provides a comfortable ambient temperature all year round.
A patio area leads off from the living room, with French doors from the kitchen too. Outdoor furniture allows guests to enjoy a comfortable alfresco meal. There is a gas BBQ provided for your use at the property with utensils provided in the lower cupboard. Steps down lead into a pretty terraced garden.

The heart of the village is just a short stroll away where guests can find the well stocked local convenience store; the Langdale Coop, Brambles Cafe, the welcoming village Church – The Great Langdale Holy Trinity and Wainwrights Inn which sells locally brewed ales and provides quality homemade food.
The famous climbers inn The Old Dungeon Ghyll, New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel and Stickle Barn Tavern are just up the Langdale Valley.
Chapel Stile, in the heart of the Langdale valley, is a village that used to serve the local slate workings – well served on a good local bus route and with a convenient little Co-op which carries an impressive stock to support you on your holidays, and of course the local village pub, Wainwrights Inn.
It is just 5 miles away from Ambleside, a much busier tourist hub with many shops, cinemas and a variety of eateries to suit most palates. Grasmere is only 9 miles away, famous for its lake, gingerbread and home to William Wordsworth which he described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found."
For those who wish to explore further afield, a bus stop is located nearby in Chapel Stile. Buses are frequent and connect guests with the wider towns and outstanding scenery of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Leaving the car behind and jumping on a bus to explore the National Park not only helps to look after the spectacular landscape but also gives passengers the opportunity to see it without the challenge of negotiating narrow, and sometimes steep, country lanes or search for parking at your destination. By sitting back watching the landscape go by, the journey becomes part of your adventure!
