The Screes is a spectacularly sited two-bedroom, dog-friendly apartment just half a mile from the dramatic shores of Wastwater, close to the ever-popular route up Scafell Pike. With comfortable double and twin bedrooms and modern kitchen and bathroom facilities, The Screes is a great property for a restful escape or an adventure-filled visit. Everything is on ground floor level. There's a lovely communal garden area, plenty of parking, and you can hardly miss the incredible scenery, arguably, some of the best in the Lake District. Here in Wasdale you'll soon be on the fells or walking the shores of Wastwater. The coast is a short drive away, and there are some great pubs in this area too.2x Dogs permitted GBP 20 each.

Wasdale is a place once seen, never forgotten. Here, nature holds sway in, arguably, the Lake District's most unspoilt valley. Check out the incredible mountain and lake scenery - it's an area of superlatives - England's highest mountain Scafell Pike (978 metres/ 3210ft), England's deepest lake, and England's smallest church. Hikers head to the head of the valley to start the most popular and shortest of the routes to ascend Scafell Pike and nearby Great Gable. Climbers rate Wasdale as one of Britain's best area for challenges, including the iconic Napes Needle. Let's not forget Wastwater and the striking scree slopes that disappear into the depths. These slopes can light up in the sunset to give you an unforgettable photogenic view and there is plenty of easy access to the lake shores. If it's hot, Wastwater is guaranteed to be the coolest place for a wild swim, while adventurous divers head for the 'Gnome Garden' 50 metres underwater (we kid you not!). There are good pubs within a few miles at Nether Wasdale and at the Wasdale Head Inn where many head before, or after, their ascent of Scafell Pike. There's also a great cafe and farm shop at The Sawmill, which is a ten-minute drive away. Good to know that there is a free(!) seasonal bus service on weekends and bank holidays that goes from Ravenglass to Wasdale Head and passes right by The Screes. Muncaster Castle and Owl Centre is a great place to visit and the grounds are especially impressive in spring, with masses of flowering rhododendrons. No visit to this area is complete without a trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale narrow gauge railway, which winds up the Eskdale valley, as it has done since 1875. If the weather isn't ideal for the fell tops, there's plenty to do within a short drive - The coast is not far (10 miles to Ravenglass and 14 miles to St Bees), a great dog-friendly beach at Seascale where there is also a Co-op, cafe, and pharmacy.
