Tigh Phadraig was the first cottage constructed and was built using the stone from the original ancestral family croft of Drew Sim. Tigh Phadraig ,named after Drew and Mary’s son Patrick, welcomed its first guests on the 26th of May 2001 and has since had many hundreds of satisfied visitors. The cottage combines the look of the ‘traditional blackhouse’ with all the modern comforts that you would expect today. The cottage sleeps four people with a traditional veiled boxed king size bed downstairs with two single beds upstairs in the mezzanine and accessed via a foldaway ladder. A travel cot is also available. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances including microwave, fridge, dishwasher, cooker hob and oven. A coffee cafetière is a welcome addition to be enjoyed whilst reading a book in front of the iron stove fire. Outside there are stunning views across the Strathaird peninsula and beyond to the Isle of Rum. There are world class photography locations within 15 minutes in every direction with a particular favourite over to the Cuillin mountain range. As lovers of the outdoors we have spent many a night in our campervan travelling around Scotland’s Highlands and Islands. Its fair to say we fell in Love with Skye on our first visit and several years later we decided to make our stay more permanent. Tigh Phadraig was the last remaining cottage for sale at Marys Thatched Cottages and the first we viewed on Skye. We knew immediately that this was the one as it charmed us with its rustic and warm welcoming feel as well as the amazing views and many walks nearby. Being our first holiday cottage rental it is very much loved by us and our family and thankfully our guests have told us they love it as much as we do.

Elgol is reached by the B8083 from Broadford. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes and you will find breathtaking views of the mountains, the sea and the Small Isles around every corner. Portree, Skye’s capital is only a 45 minute drive from Elgol. You will find shops, restaurants, petrol at either Broadford or Portree and a small shop at Elgol will mean that you will not need to worry about supplies. There are very many restaurants on Skye catering for varied tastes.
