Neighbourhood information

Diss: There is a pleasant walk through the village of Palgrave, down 'The Lows' and over fields to Diss. It's tarmacked, off road and good for all seasons, directions are provided. Diss Market, on Thursdays and Fridays, has a good fresh fish van, vegetable stall, coffee van, cheese and bread merchants and has a cheery old fashioned vibe - part of what made Diss so appealing to John Betjeman, the poet laureate who wrote a poem extolling its charms. A wonderful example of charming Diss is the Diss Publishing Bookshop, which has its own cafe overlooking Diss Mere. For a place to enjoy coffee, cakes or lunch, the owners particularly enjoy Amandines cafe, which is up the hill towards the 'top' of Diss. Opposite Amandines, Fredericks is an excellent deli and off-license. There are three supermarkets: Tesco (which is a 20 minute, off road walk from Weavers Mark Cottage; Aldi and Morrisons. There are two excellent butchers: Browns and Barkers. Eye: Another delightful market town that is about ten minutes away by car. With many listed buildings and some superb shops and cafes. The Queens Head is a fine pub; a cosy atmospheric spot for a drink and some good food. Eye also has a great butcher (Dunnets), delicatessen (Beards), greengrocer and two fine antique shops (Green Door Antiques and English and Continental Antiques). Eye's Norman castle (an important stronghold for William the Conqueror) and Cathedral are splendid and there is a lovely round trip walk to be had that takes you around the town and into the local countryside. The Best Pubs and Restaurants Nearby The Old King's Head, Brockdish. A 10 minute drive. Lovely atmospheric pub that specialises in Pizzas - good value. The Burston Crown, Burston (11 minute drive). Atmospheric bar and good pub food. The Fox and Goose, Fressingfield. About 20 minutes drive. An excellent choice for restaurant or pub food. One of Suffolk's best restaurants. The Low House, Laxfield. 25 minutes drive. One of Suffolk's most...
