The entire settlement of Methoni has been characterised as traditional. Visitors can walk around the entire area, traveling through the many historical periods that the town experienced. Methoni, which in the past was renowned for its strategic and commercial port, is rich in ancient Byzantine and Venetian monuments (churches, fortifications, etc.). The Castle of Methoni stands out, built by the Venetians and surrounded by sea. South of the fortress is the Bourtzi tower, built on a small rocky island. The tower is connected to the main fort by a stone bridge with 14 arches. In the summer, music and folk festivals take place in the castle’s moat. There are several beautiful beaches in Methoni, as well. Methoni Beach is a small pebble beach with crystal-clear, blue waters and a spectacular view of the castle .
