The “Magemeno Dasos” (Enchanted Forest) is a lifelong dream for us. We are the Kefalas Family, permanent residents of Neochori, who many years ago decided to create a place that reflects our love for nature, our homeland, and the warm hospitality of our village. Our greatest reward is the smile on our visitors’ faces, when a weekend getaway to the “Magemeno Dasos” (Enchanted Forest) or a Sunday meal at our traditional restaurant becomes a cherished memory.

Neochori is located at the heart of a cluster of villages in Northern Halkidiki, renowned for their natural beauty and rich history. It lies just 50 minutes from Thessaloniki, at the foothills of Mount Kamila, surrounded by forests of beech, chestnut, and oak trees. The village was founded around 1500 and has kept the same name for centuries: the Turks called it “Genikioi” and the Slavs “Novoselo,” both meaning “New Village.” The earliest written reference appears in a 1640 document preserved at the Iviron Monastery on Mount Athos. Neochori took an active part in the 1821 revolution alongside Emmanouil Pappas and T. Karatasos. Its most important church is that of Saint George, standing proudly on a green hill. Every year, on July 20th, the great festival of Prophet Elias is celebrated in the village square as well as at the chapel bearing his name on the northeastern side of the settlement. Equally important is the feast of Saint Athanasios, held on May 2nd, a tradition that has been kept since 1820. The area is ideal for nature lovers: hiking along marked and unmarked trails within the Aristotelian forest, horseback riding, observing flora and fauna, mushroom picking, mountain biking, and enduro. Nearby villages offer unique experiences: Arnaia, with its traditional settlement, folklore museum, and the historic Church of Saint Stephen, Megali Panagia with the church of “Panagouda”, Stagira with Aristotle’s Park, the waterfalls of Varvara, and, a little further away, the monasteries of Mount Athos (about 52 minutes). With Neochori as a starting point, visitors can explore all of Halkidiki, discovering landscapes that transform with the seasons yet remain enchanting year-round.
