One of the most beautiful villages on the island, the tranquil village of Finikia is located on the north part of Santorini, only 10 minutes walk from the famous caldera of Oia. The village stands out for the colourful buildings that remind a painting and compose an incredible setting. Finikia is surrounded by slopes full of vineyards and stone threshing fields. It was fortunate enough not to sustain severe damages during the 1956 earthquake, and stands out for its architecture. The architecture of the traditional houses will transfer you to a past era but many houses have been beautifully restored as well. Contrary to the architecture of Oia, where the houses are built on the caldera owing a wild beauty, the houses in Finikia are in harmony and consist of delightful yards, stairs and interesting facades.The buildings have a different kind of wise analogy, because they don't have to be balanced on the rocks, like the ones built on the Caldera.
