About 1,700 years ago, the Roman emperor Diocletian decided to build a palace on the Split peninsula, near Salona, where he would spend his retirement. Diocletian's palace became a city - city of tradition, history, sports, natural and cultural heritage. Diocletian's Palace and the old city center have been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1979. Numerous cafes and the popular Split Riva exude a Mediterranean way of life. Split is also home to one of the world's largest festivals - Ultra Music. When you get tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, take a walk to Marjan hill, a rich forest full of paths and hidden coves for swimming. Also, you should not skip the iconic city beach - Bačvice.
