Villa Venetta is located on island Žirje, in Koromašna bay.
Island is at the border with the Kornati National Park and 13 Nm from Šibenik city.
Źirje is small Adriatic island with a population of less than 100 people is also called the Croatian Cuba.
Island is untouched paradise with old fortes ,eight caves,29 bays.
It’s an isolated island with very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Most of the island visitors are families who are looking to spend the precious time together without any distraction.
Island is like a time capsule, ideal for those who seeking for peace, nature and the feeling of stepping back in time.
During summer season there is no any overcrowded places and most of the time You will be alone on most of the island beaches.
On the island You can find many beaches and restaurants for every single day of Your vacation. First restaurant and beach is in front/next to the house.
Žirje is connected with mainland by ferry and catamaran boats, 4 times per day during summer season. There are 2 grocery stores, about 3 km from the house,2 small private house bakery where You can preorder fresh home made bread ,donuts or pizza.
Wherever you go, on Žirje you will be accompanied by the intoxicating scent of orchids and numerous medicinal and aromatic plants.
The island supposedly got its name from the dense forests of Mediterranean oak with acorns. Central town is named the same as the island itself – Žirje. At the ferry pier in Muna Bay is the newer settlement of Riva, while the oldest, Selo, is located on a hill. It looks both beautiful and sad at the same time, with stone houses, most of which are unfortunately abandoned and left to the ravages of time. Along with the sound of the wind and the song of crickets, all that can be heard is the banging of old wooden doors and windows. A constant reminder of better times, before the emigration that displaced the people of Žirjan to all corners of the world, from America to Australia.
Island also has historically meaning, from Illyrian queen Teuta and the Byzantine emperor Justinian built two defensive fortresses on Žirje in the 6th century, Gradina (over the Stupica bay) and Gušterna (over the Mala Stupica bay), and their remains still stand proudly on the island today. The Croatian king Petar Krešimir IV. Žirje was given to the Benedictines in 1059, later it was ruled by the Venetians and the Turks, and throughout all that time, the island, due to its specific geographical position, always played the role of an outpost. It was also a very important military stronghold during the Homeland War. The coastal battlements of Zvizdulje and Vela Glava, the observation post on the Straža hill (Štacijun) above the village, and the command post in Mikuljice played a significant role in the defense of Šibenik during aggression in 1991. The three former island barracks are now abandoned and devastated - everything was looted after the war.
In the central part of the island, on an area of 108 hectares, there is a fertile field. Olive trees, grapevines, figs, five varieties of plums and almonds are grown there. The highest peak of this untouched paradise in the Šibenik archipelago is called Kapić and lies at an altitude of 131 meters above sea level.
