Built by local Bukit Lawang people a unique space was created. that can provide you with a unique experience, jungle adventures for travellers/tourists from all over the world. Kupu Kupu Garden Guest House & Cafe located just outside Bukit Lawang village is a boutique, rustic, small eco-friendly tourism business. Set in a tranquil location surrounded by lush tropical rainforest on the edge of the Bohorok River with fresh, clean, flowing refreshing water and opposite Mt Leuser National Park, a 1,000,000 hectare UNESCO world heritage listed wilderness. This is a magical location and the perfect base for your jungle experiences and adventures - trek to meet the local Sumatran orangutan and other wildlife, tube / raft down the river, indulge in delicious Indonesian cuisine, relax, swim, explore and more ... Our boutique style guest house features 4 rooms, 2 deluxe rooms that are great for families and 1 deluxe double room. These rooms feature private bathrooms with hot water showers, a bar fridge and a secured safe deposit box, indoor and outdoor balcony seating areas to relax in when you are not out exploring. We also have 1 basic budget double room (currently with a cold water shower only). Free wifi is available in the communal areas. In our communal cafe area you can order food and drinks, play games, chat with guests and our workers.

People from all around the world are attracted to Bukit Lawang. A most favoured activity is trekking and camping in the National Park's tropical rain forest. People have the opportunity to view many animals in their natural habitat and see exotic plants. Sumatran orangutans, gibbons (white handed, black/siamang, the 100 gibbon), Thomas Leaf Monkeys (endemic to North Sumatra), pig-tail and long-tail macaque monkeys, numerous birds including hornbills, eagles, argus pheasants and owls, numerous lizards and geckos including the large monitor lizards are often sighted. Water sport activities, swimming, rafting and tubing are also very popular. People can also experience a village agricultural/ cultural tour, travelling in a becak or riding a bycicle, exploring local farming and cottage industries.
