Monaghan is a the largest town of Monaghan County. It is in the Irish Republic and has a border with Northern Ireland. There are several small towns nearby, Castleblayney, Carrickmacross and Clones. Its Gaelic translation is "the County of little hills", due to the drumlins, the little hills, which feature throughout the County. The local currency is the Euro. There are plenty of quality restaurants in the town, plus a good variety of shops, coffee shops, furniture shops, supermarkets, take-aways etc. Castle Leslie is a short drive away in Glaslough (translated as green lake), which was the home to Leslie Family. This area is renowned for its natural beauty, with woods, lakes, green fields, plus access to horse riding, fishing etc. The Northern Ireland Counties are only a short 30 minute drive away, where towns like Armagh, Derry, Donegal etc. are accessible.
