The oldest evidence of the existence of a settlement identified with Trani dates back to the Tabula Peutingeriana (the copy of the thirteenth century of a Roman route from the fourth century), where it appears with the name of 'Turenum'. It's the place in which the Maritime laws 'the Ordinamenta Maris' were created in 1063, also considered the oldest maritime code of the Mediterranean in the Middle Ages. The prosperity of Trani is, therefore, linked to maritime trade and the Crusades. This rich situation of commerce didn't arrive until the eleventh century where families from the Maritime Republics (Amalfi, Genoa, Venice) moved to the city, which already enjoyed a rich Jewish presence. The building of the Bed & Breakfast TABULA MARIS without a doubt has as deep and interesting story as our city, thanks to its origins dating back to the thirteenth century. Located in the historic city center on the main street running parallel to the harbor, now Via Ognissanti, which also leads to the Cathedral.
