The guesthouse we run is located in Gofukumachi, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City. If you live outside the prefecture, you may have never heard of this place before. However, Gofukumachi is a very attractive town! ■ Good transport access. Gofukumachi is located in the centre of Fukuoka's Tenjin and Hakata areas, both of which can be reached on foot. Guests staying at the hotel are highly satisfied because they can easily return home after enjoying Fukuoka's gourmet cuisine. Furthermore, the Fukuoka Mizuho PayPay Dome, home of the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, is a 20-minute bus ride away. Marine Messe Fukuoka, where famous artists hold concerts, is a 15-minute walk away, so first-time visitors to Fukuoka can enjoy baseball games and concerts with ease. ■ A city with history The Daibaku Street leading to Hakata Station is lined with office buildings, but there is also an old-fashioned street called ‘Hakata Old Town’ in the backstreets. Many temples keep important national cultural assets. The festival Hakata Gion Yamakasa, held every July, is also designated as a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property and was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016.
