SEN.RETREAT was born out of a desire to address pressing local challenges, such as the declining population and shortage of successors to manage lodging facilities in each village. Our goal is to help preserve the environment and culture of walking the Kumano Kodo for future generations. To support this vision, we operate our lodgings sustainably as unmanned accommodations, without on-site reception or permanent staff. Together with our dedicated team from various regions, we strive to offer each guest a comfortable and memorable stay—while ensuring the continued legacy of the Kumano Kodo trail. Located about a 3-hour walk from Takijiri-Oji, SEN.RETREAT TAKAHARA is near several scenic and cultural spots, including the Fog Village Rest Area, where a breathtaking sea of clouds can be seen in the morning, and the Takahara Kumano Shrine, the oldest shrine along the Kumano Kodo, just a 5-minute walk away. We offer two types of stay options: Whole House Rental Plan: Ideal for groups of 4 to 10 guests, this plan offers exclusive use of the entire facility.
