I am your host Heejae at Hello Jeje Guesthouse, and Jeonju is the city where I was born and raised. In my twenties and thirties I spent many years traveling around the world, staying in guesthouses, hostels, and small family-run hotels. Those experiences taught me how meaningful it is to feel truly welcomed in a new country. Now I live back in my hometown of Jeonju with my wife and our son, running this guesthouse together as a family. We hope Hello Jeje can be your warm home in Korea, just as so many homes abroad welcomed me when I was a traveler.

Hello Jeje Guesthouse is a small, cozy guesthouse located in the Jeonju Hanok Village, one of Korea’s most famous traditional neighborhoods. We have been welcoming guests since 2014, and many travelers say it feels more like visiting a friend’s home than staying at a hotel. Our rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable, with a warm and natural style. Some rooms are Western-style beds, and others are Korean-style floor bedding (ondol), so you can experience both comfort and a bit of local culture. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax after exploring the village, drinking makgeolli, or tasting bibimbap, Hello Jeje is a perfect base for your trip.

Jeonju is often called one of the most “Korean” cities, known for its traditional culture, food, and slow, relaxed atmosphere. At the heart of the city is Jeonju Hanok Village, where hundreds of traditional hanok houses stand along narrow stone alleys. You can visit Gyeonggijeon Shrine, a peaceful historical site with beautiful old buildings and tall trees that change color in every season. Nearby, Jeondong Catholic Cathedral shows a different side of Korean history, with Western-style architecture standing right next to the hanok roofs. For views over the village, you can walk up to Omokdae or a small hilltop observatory and look down at the curved tiled roofs spreading out below you. Food lovers should not miss Jeonju-style bibimbap, traditional makgeolli (rice wine) pubs, and the many street snacks in and around the Hanok Village. In the evening, the streets become quieter and the warm lights from the hanok windows make the whole village feel very cozy and romantic. If you walk a little away from the main tourist road, you can find small cafés, local craft shops, and quiet corners where mostly locals go. You can also explore Nambu Traditional Market and the nearby youth market area, where you will find everyday Korean life mixed with creative new shops. Staying at our guesthouse in Jeonju Hanok Village is a great way to experience both the famous sights and the simple daily charm of one of Korea’s most authentic cities.
