My name is Monica. I grew up in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, and have lived La Paz for the last six years. During that time, I've grown roots into the community through educational programs and efforts to advance environmental conscience in the form of organic gardens, recycling, and sustainable water-management practices.

A traditional La Paz home, Casa Abuelita was built over a hundred years ago. It has recently been given an exquisite renovation that preserves the history and beauty of an old home while bringing you the comforts and amenities of the 21st century. The original doors still hang beneath the wooden beams and corrugated roof where they have been for decades. The side street rooms that once served as space for typing classes given by Señora Julieta have been remodeled and are now finely designed bathrooms that also act as buffers from the street noise. Inside the house you will find an unexpected peace and serenity, especially in the central garden where an old well still reaches down into the La Paz aquifer. We take pride decorating all of our houses, and we’ve spent much time giving Casa Abuelita bird-themed artwork that brings more light and beauty to its open spaces. Casa Abuelita lies in the heart of old La Paz, one block from the Malecón (the boardwalk that lines the cove), and one block from the Cathedral and the central plaza. La Paz’s finest restaurants are within a block or two of the house.

And don’t forget to visit the farmer’s market a couple of blocks away, which goes on in the mornings of Tuesday and Saturday. The neighborhood restaurants include Ambrusia, JR Ribs, Tres Virgenes, Sorstis, Locos por la Pasta (Crazy for Pasta), 1240 coffee shop, the Bagel shop, La Masa (a fantastic pastry bakery), and last but not least, our favorite restaurant, Prana. Across the street is the Mezcalería de La Paz, an inviting place heavily frequented by locals and tourists alike to savor its broad Mezcal selection.
