We are Hans and Marnie van der Velde, proud owners of Veldhorst Apartments. As born and raised Leideners, we know the city inside out and love to share that passion with our guests. Our house on Hugo de Grootstraat has been in our family for more than 50 years and is full of history: the monumental building from 1892 was completely renovated in 2022/2023 and now combines modern comfort with authentic charm. The street itself is a peaceful oasis, while Leiden’s lively city center with its canals, museums, and restaurants is just a stone’s throw away. Since 2024, we have been delighted to welcome guests to Veldhorst Apartments – a place where history, comfort, and hospitality come together.

On the first floor you’ll find our 2-person studio Hendrikus – beautifully decorated and fully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. On the second floor is our 4-person apartment Jacobus, featuring two bedrooms, a spacious bathroom, a cozy landing, and a living room with kitchenette – perfect for families or friends looking to discover Leiden together.

Our property is located in one of Leiden’s most beloved neighborhoods: Vreewijk. This 19th-century district – the city’s first expansion outside the canals and now a protected heritage area – is known for its unique character. No two houses are the same: colorful facades, decorative stonework, varied building heights, and its waterside setting give the area a charming, lively atmosphere. From Veldhorst Apartments, you can easily walk to Leiden’s most beautiful sights. The famous Rapenburg, the city’s most elegant canal lined with historic buildings, is literally around the corner. Here you’ll also find the Academy Building, the Hortus Botanicus, the National Museum of Antiquities, and the SieboldHuis. Each year, the Rapenburg even becomes the picturesque stage for the Rapenburg Concert. The neighborhood is also full of lovely shops, excellent restaurants, and sunny terraces. On warm days, the canals come alive with boats, and the city’s relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere is everywhere to be felt.
