It was spotlessly clean. The owners went above and beyond to make us feel very welcome and make our stay a good one. At breakfast we had a wide of choice of food and lots of it. This is not your typical hotel with 'branded' bedrooms. It's got...

Hosts were exceptional - very welcoming & friendly. Breakfast was outstanding. Lots of lovely food. Even though we were right opposite the ferry terminal the noise was minimal - & a lovely view out to the Fjord. Location great for passing through.

The hosts (Paolo and Julia) were really friendly and hospitable. We also enjoyed Paolo playing the piano during dinner. The next morning, we got some delicious and freshly baked cake at breakfast.

I could write a long text, but I will just keep it short: Our stay at Sognefjord Gjesteheim was wonderful! Gullveig and Paolo are so welcoming and friendly. Staying here really gives you a notion of how special this area of Norway is!

The hosts. Paulo and Julia, make you feel like you are staying with family or old friends. The guesthouse is clean and unpretentious, but the ambiance they create transforms what might have been just a brief stop on your journey into a memory...

This guest house was saved and brought back to life by new owners Paulo and Julia. They have spent the last year lovingly restoring and refurbishing the rooms and given a new lease of life to a previously tired and worn out property. My room, with...

Property information

Sognefjord Guest House on Vangsnes is owned and operated by Gullveig Tenold and Paolo Angel. We purchased the property in 2024 and have since renovated and upgraded to provide our guests with a cozy and comfortable stay in the heart of the 204 km long Sognefjord – the world's longest navigable fjord. Our rooms offer private bathrooms and stunning views of the fjord and the majestic surrounding mountains. The guest house boasts a large balcony that runs the length of the building, providing a perfect spot to soak up the spectacular scenery and observe the comings and goings at the ferry dock. The ferry dock, located directly in front of the guest house, offers a lively atmosphere without being disruptive. The ferries are electric and environmentally friendly. We serve a simple, healthy, and delicious Norwegian breakfast included in the price. Enjoy it in one of our three cozy living rooms while overlooking the fjord panorama! If you’d like dinner, the charming village of Vik (see below) is just a ten-minute drive away, offering different dining options. We may also assist with ordering hot food from our kitchen - Please ask for options on beforehand.

Neighbourhood information

We are happy to recommend wonderful hikes and excursions to the villages and attractions around Sognefjord Guest House: Vik, with its beautiful stave church, stone church, and picturesque historical buildings by the fjord. Arnafjord, Fresvik, Feios, and the breathtaking Finnafjord are also nearby destinations to explore. Balestrand, with its renowned dragon-style architecture, is well worth a visit. Nature lovers can enjoy Vikafjell and numerous other hiking opportunities in the area. In Vik, you can rent your own boat and explore the fjord and its many arms. If you want to swim in the fjord, there's a swimming area at Vangsnes about a five-minute walk from the guesthouse. The Fritjof statue is Norway's tallest statue! It is the symbol of the romantic and dramatic Viking legend of Queen Ingeborg and her beloved Fritjof. The statue has long been the tallest in Northern Europe. When at Vangsnes, the beautiful fjord view from the Fritjof statue is a must!
