Stay in the heart of Hokitika’s historic quarter, just 1 minute from the beach, 2 minutes to the river and Sunset Point, and a short stroll to bars, restaurants, museums, shops, and the theatre. You won’t need the car – everything’s right here. Crooked Mile Cottage is over 100 years old and full of West Coast character. It’s clean, cosy, and lovingly cared for, but it’s not modern or shiny – think quirky charm, vintage vibes, and the odd creak in the floorboard. If you prefer chrome and marble, this might not be your style. But if you love a place with a story and loads of personality, you’ll feel right at home. We offer something a little different – a fun, relaxed space where you can soak up some local history, enjoy great food, and sip wine by the sea. Quirky is definitely a compliment here. KITCHEN: original, small galley kitchen, fully equipped. Sometimes guests leave behind cooking supplies. Please help yourself to anything left in the cupboard if you need it. BEDS: As part of our efforts to be more eco-friendly, we have implemented a policy of only making up the beds that are required based on the number of guests booked. To ensure a comfortable stay, please let us know the number of guests staying and the type of beds needed, such as 1 queen or 2 singles. Remember to include children and infants in your guest count. EXTRA INFO: Large fenced backyard with outdoor dining. Bike storage in shed or on porch. Toys, books, portacot & highchair available. Ring security cameras at front and back doors monitor entry while unoccupied. CLEANING: No cleaning fee—we prepare the house for your arrival, but ask that you leave it clean and tidy. Discover Hokitika from the Heart of Town Crooked Mile Cottage is perfectly positioned in Hokitika’s historic quarter, right on Revell Street—just across the road from the beach and a short stroll to the river, Sunset Point, and the famous Hokitika Driftwood sign. You’re also just minutes from local bars, restaurants, cafes, the museum, theatre, and boutique shops. Around the corner, you’ll find Bonz ‘n Stonz, where you can carve your own piece of pounamu (greenstone) to take home as a one-of-a-kind treasure. Guests love being so close to the shoreline—ideal for beachcombing, pounamu hunting, or simply unwinding with fish and chips while watching the sunset at Sunset Point. On a clear day, you can even admire the view of Aoraki/Mt Cook from the nearby river mouth. This is the perfect spot for families. There are two fantastic playgrounds nearby, plus the Westland Industrial Heritage Park—a hidden gem with vintage machinery, hands-on exhibits, and even miniature train rides that are always a hit with kids (and grown-ups too!). The fully fenced yard offers secure bike storage and a peaceful place to relax after your ride. While the cottage is right in the centre of town, the neighbourhood remains quiet, walkable, and safe—making it a favourite with guests who want convenience without the noise.
