In the sleepy Coromandel town of Whiritoa is Whiritoa Retreat a bright and welcoming home just waiting to welcome you in for your break away. Normally a sleepy town Whiritoa only has a couple of hundred permanent residents over summer the bach owners head here for the peace and quiet. It is located in between Waihi and Whangamata and about 2 hours or so from Auckland the beach is more of a surf beach and can be a bit tricky for swimming the surf lifesavers patrol the beach and you must swim between the flags however at the north end of the beach is there a lagoon which is a bit safer to swim in. If you head along a little further from the lagoon there is a short walk to Waimama Bay which has gorgeous white sands and crystal clear waters, along the beach are NZ's Christmas tree the Pohutukawa, which in summer bursts into red flowers, this area is a photographer's dream! Whiritoa has a convenience store for any essentials and a library if you need some summer reading.
