Nestled along the banks of the Pelorus River in the beautiful Marlborough region, this charming rustic cabin offers a tranquil retreat for the lone traveler or a couple.
Inside, the self-contained cabin is a compact yet cosy space with a queen bed, heat-pump and comfortable seating. Throw on a guest robe and step out of the cabin, to your own private newly renovated kitchenette and bathroom. Enjoy the sunset and river views while lounging on the outside deck. Then step down into your own outdoor BBQ and dinning area.
The property has its own private track down to the river, for trout fishing or taking a dip. There are plenty of mountain biking tracks close by too.
This intimate setting invites you to unwind, reconnect with nature, so just sit back and savor every peaceful moment.
For nearly 10 years, Jo and Floyd have lovingly tended to this property, planting trees and reclaiming farm land back to Nature. There is a small patch of mature native bush on the property which you will walk through if you wander down to the banks of the Pelorus River during your stay with us. The rest of the land is planted in all sorts of trees and shrubs, from natives to exotic, evergreen to deciduous. If your a tree lover then this property will be a delight to you.
Formerly a haematologist Jo is now retired from healthcare. With vast experience in the hospitality industry . Floyd felt a desire to create a wilderness escape for others to come and enjoy.
The cabin is named after the Road, "Maungatapu," which was originally the historic gold mining trail by horse from canvas town, to Nelson. This trail is now only open for trampers, mountain bikes and off road motorbikes.

Emerald pool - MT Richmond forest park... Is a swimming hole in the stunning Pelorus River located a short distance up the Pelorus Track. From the cabin its only a short drive to the start of the track where you will park your car and walk 1 hour to the pool. The track is rated easy.
Also on the doorstep, is Pelorus Eco Adventures. Running guided kayaking tours of the famous Pelorus river. Visiting famous Lord of the Rings filming locations on the way. They will pick you up from the Cabin so no need to drive back into Havelock to connect with this service provider.
Keen on mountain biking? Then bring your bike there are some great trails from the cabin.
A short drive to Havelock, and you can take a scenic trip into the Marlborough Sounds on the Mailboat. Join a day cruise and meet local residents, learn the history of Pelorus Sound, spot plentiful wildlife and enjoy our beautiful and unique part of the world.
