We have had the pleasure of hosting visitors on the Otago Central Rail Trail for over 15 years. In 2022 it was time to take it easier so we designed Schist Rock Lodge which is private from our adjacent new home. We are a 4th generation local family and Mandy will welcome you to ensure that your stay with us in beautiful Central Otago will be relaxing and memorable.

Property information

A hidden oasis in the historic railway town of Omakau, Central Otago, offers new architecturally designed king ensuite studios, complete with luxury furnishings. Soak in the deep bath with some herbal salts in the light of a flickering candle. Relax taking in the mountain views listening to the water trickling from the old gold sluice pipe into the pond, while enjoying a drink on your private deck overlooking the garden. A perfect location to stay for a weekend getaway to explore the main attractions of what Central Otago has to offer nearby or when pedaling the iconic Rail Trail. Complimentary transportation to your choice of great local restaurants for evening dining. We are a 4th generation local family taking pride to ensure your stay is something memorable.

Neighbourhood information

Located in a quiet neighbourhood on large private spacious grounds opposite the Domain and close by to local cafe, mini supermarket etc. A short walk to the golf course, local walking tracks, wetland and the Manuherikia River, ideal for a swim or trout fishing.
