Casa da Mãe is more than just accommodation — it's a living piece of Santana's history. Located in the heart of the traditional houses, this over 70-year-old house holds the memories of generations, now renovated to welcome those seeking authentic Madeiran life with modern comforts.
Every detail reflects tradition: from the thatch that once covered the roof to the photo of the house's former owner — Maria — painted at the entrance, surrounded by the flowers she loved so much. The soft colors, natural elements, and décor inspired by Madeira's rural life create a welcoming and calm atmosphere.
Our four studio apartments combine simplicity and comfort, with equipped kitchens, bright areas, and a view that invites you to slow down.
We welcome each visitor as if they were a friend. Upon arrival, you will find a space prepared with great care, with small details that reflect Madeiran hospitality — from fresh flowers from the garden to local suggestions for exploring Santana.
We want each guest to feel the warmth that has always filled this house — that same spirit of sharing and comfort that Maria conveyed to everyone who passed through here.
Welcome to Casa da Mãe — where tradition and comfort meet.

Casa da Mãe is located in the heart of Santana, one of the most charming areas of Madeira Island, known for its typical thatched houses, lush nature, and tranquil, genuinely Madeiran atmosphere.
Guests love the village's authenticity, where tradition and landscape meet at every turn. A short walk away, you can visit the Santana Typical Houses Centre, one of Madeira's most photographed spots.
For nature lovers, Santana is the starting point for some of the island's most beautiful levadas and trails, such as the Levada do Caldeirão Verde, Pico das Pedras, and the Queimadas Forest Park. These paths cross Laurissilva forests and reveal breathtaking views of the sea and mountains.
In terms of gastronomy, there are local restaurants where you can sample traditional dishes such as espetada (meat skewers) on laurel wood, bolo do caco (a type of bread), and Madeira wine, always served with the characteristic friendliness of the region.
Other nearby points of interest include the Madeira Theme Park and the Rocha do Navio viewpoint with cable car, ideal for exploring with the family.
Santana is the perfect place for those seeking tranquility, nature and authenticity — a piece of Madeira where time passes slowly and every detail invites you to appreciate the essentials.
