Casa da Matilde allows you to be near the sea, in a safe location but close enough to hear the waves from your bedroom window. The patio offers a splendid view of Pico island and amazing sunsets.
I live in the beautiful fajã de São João, in the island of São Jorge. I have 3 kids, all adults, a girl and 2 boys. My husband - Paulo - works at the mayor`s office, in Calheta, but he also enjoys farming, so we have some animals, cats, dogs, chickens, and sheep. He likes history and reading. I like nature, reading and practicing foreign languages. We love to share the beautiful Fajã with our guests. If you enjoy the sea, calm and peaceful places, PARADISE IS HERE! Please note – access to the house involves external stairs (see photos), with around 40 steps.
Fajã de São João is a small place, where people have summer houses or small houses that support their agricultural activities. With a little more than 20 people living here full time, it`s quiet and people are friendly. You have splendid views and walking trails near by. Ideal place to recover from big cities stress, fishing, swimming or scuba diving in warm blue water. Everybody is welcome, independent of race, religion or sexual orientation. Here in Fajã there`s only a Tavern, but 15-20 minutes away, by car, you have grocery stores, pharmacy, ATM and restaurants. Please note: Access to Fajã de São João, as with most Fajãs in São Jorge, is via a narrow, winding road that descends the hillside toward the sea. However, the road is paved and passable. Even the tourist bus runs this route.
